This semi-final sectional matchup at Rickard Field sure didn't disappoint between these two rivals! The Raiders entered the match at 13-0-4 while the Mavericks at 14-3-0. The previous 2 years these sides have clashed and both games have ended up in OT with the Raiders pulling out wins in both contests. The game was physical throughout with both teams creating chances. The Raiders secured a 1-0 lead when junior Ivan Gutierrez hit a free kick just outside the box which the Mav GK was able to save, but then Carter Koutsouros followed up the shot netting the rebound. McCutcheon tied it at 1-1 just moments into the second half and the game stayed tied through 80 minutes. Moments into the OT senior Evan Pounds catapulted a throw-in 40 yards directly into the penalty box where Senior Ashton Avila headed the ball into the right side of the goal. Avila and his teammates celebrated! The Raiders were able to possess the ball limiting any further chances from the Mavs and advanced to the Sectional Championship scheduled for this Saturday at 7pm at HHS on Rickard Field. The Raiders moved to 14-0-4 on the season and have a chance to win their 4th consecutive sectional title this Saturday!
